My CanvasRebel Interview: A Journey of Inspiration and Storytelling with C.M. Harris

I’m thrilled to share some exciting news—I recently had the honor of being featured in an interview with CanvasRebel! Reflecting on my journey as a children’s author and founder of Purple Diamond Press has been such a meaningful experience, and I’m excited to share a bit more about the story behind my work.

Why I Started Purple Diamond Press

Purple Diamond Press was born from a dream to create something meaningful out of my personal journey. After graduating college, I faced years of employment challenges due to disability bias. Instead of giving up, I decided to pave my own path and create a company where I could tell stories that matter, inspire children, and promote positive values.

Having worked with children for over 15 years, I knew there was a need for literature that reflects the beauty of diversity, kindness, and inclusion. My books aim to meet that need by providing relatable, heartfelt stories that encourage important conversations about acceptance, friendship, and resilience.

The Meaning Behind the Name

The name Purple Diamond Press holds special significance. Purple symbolizes creativity, wisdom, and ambition, while diamonds represent strength and resilience. Together, the name embodies the heart of what I strive to do—create stories that spark creativity, foster understanding, and leave a lasting impact. It’s a reminder that, even through challenges, something beautiful and enduring can emerge.

Highlights from My CanvasRebel Interview

In the interview, I shared more about my mission and some proud moments along the way. One of my favorite quotes from the article is:

“Every child deserves to see themselves in stories. Representation matters, and my books aim to spark meaningful conversations while teaching values like friendship, diversity, and resilience.”

I also reflected on some amazing milestones, including the recognition of my first book, What If We Were All The Same!, by organizations like ABC7 News, the San Francisco 49ers, and the BBC. These moments are humbling reminders of why I started this journey—to create meaningful stories that make a difference in the lives of young readers.
